Unbelief Will Always Make a Reason to Not Believe

Hello my friends, I hope you have had a great week.

Have you ever studied Christian apologetics (the defense for the Christian faith)? Perhaps you have read C. S. Lewis’, Mere Christianity, Lee Strobel’s, The Case for Christ, or Josh McDowell’s, Evidence That Demands a Verdict. Each of these books are quite beneficial, and I would encourage anyone who is having honest questions to read them. However, over the years I have found that most people do not wrestle so much with honest doubts as they do with stubborn unbelief. Generally the problem is not an intellectual one as much as it is a moral one.

Doubts and “timid faith” alike are accompanied with questions. One can observe these in Nicodemus’ dialogue with Jesus in John 3, or in John the Baptist’s questions for Jesus, as he sat in a cell awaiting execution (see Matt. 11:2-6), or the father who requested his son’s healing (see Mark 9:16-27). Stubborn unbelief is an altogether different beast. Unbelief rejects Christ, no matter the evidence, logic, or consequence. Unbelief holds tightly to its pride, position, power, or whatever else, so long as it does not bow itself to the authority of God. Unbelief will always make an excuse to reject Christ and the need for Him. Jesus rebukes the unbelief of the people of the day:

But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates, “We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.” For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He has a demon.” The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!” Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds. ~ Matthew 11:16-19

There are those who view Christians as being absurd for believing in an Almighty Creator, yet have no problem believing the universe mysteriously came into existence by chance. There are those who say they “will follow science where so ever it will lead,” yet ostracize scientists who, observing the amazing structure and order from the cosmos to the molecular, dare mention Intelligent Design (understand, ID is not the same thing as theism or Christianity); yet, those who reject even the notion of ID hold up evolution as fact, even though there isn’t any scientific evidence whatsoever to support it. Perhaps no one admits the reason for their unbelief any better than Aldous Huxley:

“I had motive for not wanting the world to have a meaning; consequently assumed that it had none, and was able without any difficulty to find satisfying reasons for this assumption. The philosopher who finds no meaning in the world is not concerned exclusively with a problem in pure metaphysics, he is also concerned to prove that there is no valid reason why he personally should not do as he wants to do, or why his friends should not seize political power and govern in the way that they find most advantageous to themselves. … For myself, the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation, sexual and political.” [1]

Is this not the real reason for the majority of people’s rejection of God? Oh sure, most people, on the one hand, have asked honest questions about evil and such. The irony is most people also justify their own acts of evil. This is one of the great evils and hypocrisy of Communist regimes, they accuse religion as being the source of wars, all the while Communism is guilty of all kinds of unjust afflictions and killings of millions of people through starvation, sheer brutality, demented experiments, and social engineering.

Many of Hollywood’s elites like to accuse Christian’s as being “stupid” and “dangerous.” Now, there are religious nut jobs out there, and there are hypocrites in churches. However, for those who have parents, grandparents, or siblings who truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, are these persons really stupid or dangerous? Do they get F’s in everything and are never successful? Are they the ones in the neighborhood everyone is afraid of, for fear of their lives? No, Hollywood‘s resentment towards God and Christianity has nothing to do with an intellectual issue. No, Hollywood’s is completely a moral one. And the same goes for godless politics.

Unbelief desires autonomy, and will fight tooth and nail to keep it. Honest doubts and timid faith will listen to answers to their questions and consider them, and are willing to change. Unbelief declares along with Woody Allen, “The heart wants what the heart wants,” despite how despicable the affections.

God does not hide from people as much as people close their eyes to Him. We are given this promise:

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. ~ Jeremiah 29:13

Elsewhere we are told,

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. ~ Hebrews 1:1-3

God is not silent, but people just don’t want to hear. To many, the temporary pleasures of sin are not worth the life to be found in Christ. Jesus could stand before them, as He did the people of old, but unbelief will always make a reason to reject Him. There is nothing new under the sun.

The unregenerate snidely remark how stupid Christianity is, all the while embracing ideologies that exalt deception, violence, and vice—ever creating more problems and fewer solutions that are truly just.

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. ~ James 3:16-17

So many claim to be “offended” by the trivial, all the while applauding those things which are abominable and detrimental.

You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! ~ Matthew 23:24

“Lie to Me, I Like It!”

I used to listen to a Christian band called Under Midnight, who were around the early 90’s. Their self-titled concept album is somewhat prophetic of the times we are living in with such corporate greed, visual reality, a push for a totalitarian government, etc. To this day, a line from one of their songs sticks out and reflects the unspoken cry from so many today:

“Lie to me! Lie to me, I like it!”

Today, it seems as though so many do not care about truth. Our society reminds me of baby birds in a nest with their mouths open, ready for mama bird to stuff them with worms. However, in our case, people’s mouths are open to any excrement the media, politicians, celebrities, university professors, the “experts,” etc. will fill them with.

Recently, union reps were upset that Biden put a stop to the building of the pipe line. Somehow they were surprised by this. In such irrational hatred for President Trump, they woofed down the excrement fed to them, although there was plenty of warnings. Bear with me for a moment.

Mind you, I do not care about the source, whether Democrat, Republican, liberal, or conservative—I do not like being lied to (and there are liars in each camp). However, the present Democrat Party (which really is no longer Democratic) is built on nothing but lies and deception. It astounds me that so many can stomach the ramblings of the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, Don Lemon, the View, Hollywood, etc.

While I do not like everything about Trump, I do care about truth. For four years Trump was hammered by the aforementioned. The media and Hollywood were despicably ruthless in their attacks (portraying him decapitated or assassinated, saying his son should be locked in a room with a bunch of molesters, etc.). Granted, Trump was not always tactful, but none of his words or behaviors came close to such beastly blood-lust.

For four years we were told he was involved in Russian collusion, only to find out the evidence pointed back to the Democrats. We were repeatedly told how racist he is; yet, throughout the years he has been good friends with many black individuals, and his policies were helping black communities. We were told he is a warmonger, that he was going to lead us into war with North Korea, Iran, and Russia. How many wars did he lead us into? Zero. Nevertheless, the media, Washington, and Hollywood kept portraying him as a monster. But did society ever stop and think, “Wait a minute! The media so lied to us? What the heck???” Nope. Instead:

“Lie to me! Lie to me, I like it!

For a number of years, especially as of late, we are being told that socialism is a beneficial necessity. Ol’ Bernie once stated that he thinks breadlines are a good thing (of course, he does not mean they are good for him). History, even Venezuela today, repeatedly shows socialism only benefits the elite and tramples on the rest who are at their mercy. Yet, do people go to these rallies of Bernie and his bedfellows and protest such lying and hypocrisy? No, they applaud, as they envision an illusionary paradise for free.

“Lie to me! Lie to me, I like it!”

For many years now, our “educators,” (many of whom took upon themselves to “edit” history, erasing certain parts and writing in other parts. They tell us our founders were brutish, and America was not founded on Christian principles (Kirk Cameron has an excellent documentary called, Monumental, I encourage you to watch it). Our forefathers were not perfect, by any means, nor was every individual a Christian. Yet, these editors leave out so much of the truth of these men who honored integrity and virtue (which the “editors” are void of. As of late, some professors are even erasing parts of WWII and saying the Holocaust did not happen. Is there an outrage? No.

“Lie to me! Lie to me, I like it!”

Something else that perplexes me is the fact that Obama, Clinton, James Comey (among others) have done activities which the average American would be imprisoned for (i.e., sending billions of dollars to Iran (a college kid would certainly be questioned if he sent money to the terrorist capital of the world); the deception behind the negligence of the Benghazi situation; dishonesty within investigations. Comey even got some chuckles from an audience when he admitted that the things he did the average person would be in trouble for. To be fair, there are some Republicans who should be incarcerated because of human trafficking and the like. Why does media trivialize these, and why  is society not outraged?

“Lie to me! Lie to me, I like it!”

Hollywood blowhards (let me add Chelsea Clinton, since she has done this too) stand up and state how “embarrassed” they are for “being white” and having “white privilege.” Really??? I have seen people embarrassed (and I have experienced embarrassment), and they did not seek the attention of a camera for the world to see, admitting their shame smugly and condescendingly. Furthermore, I have yet heard of these persons who claim to be so ashamed of being “white and privileged” roll up their sleeves to help those who are underprivileged. Liars! Yet, people applaud their shameless, lying hypocrisies. Why?

Again, “Lie to me! Lie to me, I like it!”

My point is not to defend Trump (or Republicans and conservatives, for that matter). If he has lied, hold him accountable, but do not condemn him for lying while justifying liars who have built their whole careers on lying.
Which brings me to Biden and Harris. They have got to where they are by means of deception. Media has ample evidence of this, they just will not highlight it. Yet, people are upset by some of their decisions. Why? Biden has always been a cheat and a liar, and Harris is not shy about her Marxist views (which has no shame in lying and making use of “useful idiots”).

I do not care whether people share my political or religious views. However, something all of us should care about is truth, honesty, and integrity. It is utterly stupid to ignore these then be surprised when liars and cheats betray us.

Being lied to used to be something that outraged people. How has being lied to not only become accepted but even applauded? When will society cease to like being lied to?

A truthful witness saves lives, but one who breathes out lies is deceitful. ~ Proverbs 14:25

Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter. ~ Isaiah 59:14
